TEHRAN The political and social views of the late Ayatollah Mahmoud Taleqani were reviewed here Thursday.
A lecturer of the Teachers Training University, Hashem Aqajari, said Taleqani was the link between the constitutional thought and republicanism in an Islamic government.
The ceremony marked the 20th death anniversary of the ayatollah who was the first Friday prayer leader of Tehran and a member the Revolution Council. He was jailed by the Shah's regime for 23 years.
Aqajari who is a member of the Organization of Islamic Revolution Mojahedin said Taleqani's world outlook, ideology and political thought is an integrated collection which should be examined altogether.
He said unity is the theme of Taleqani's thought unity in the sense of negation of any form of domination of human beings other than God's.
According to Aqajari, Taleqani's look at history is evolutionary and the unity meant by him brings emancipation and freedom of expression for people.
Aqajari holds that the three principles of unity, freedom and justice constituted the gist of Taleqani's political thought.
Another speaker was Abdolali Bazargan, son of the former premier, late Mahdi Bazargan, who said by social justice, Taleqani meant the rule of people and negation of dictatorship and colonization.
According to Bazargan, Taleqani believed that the view of people should be respected even if it is a mistake. Bazargan said from the viewpoint of Taleqani enjoining to good and forbidding the evil should be revived and the principle means public supervision of the rulers.
He said Taleqani stressed that criticism, freedom of expression and the press are instruments to be employed in enjoining the good and forbidding what is evil.
Another speaker was Mohammad Mohammadi who said from Taleqani's perspective that has also been enshrined in the Constitution people enjoy equal rights and the government cannot violate the rights of certain groups by non-Islamic supervisions such as approbatory supervision.
The round table was attended held at Husseiniyeh Ershad here on Thursday.
